NB - if you have banking units in your consist (locomotives not physically connected to your loco), the first thing to do is turn banking radio on in your locomotive. The banking locos will now mimic your locomotive reverser and power level settings.
R = required, O = optional
- R Sit in the driver seat For AI trains, simplified physics and driving is used. By sitting in the driver seat you tell the game engine you want to drive this train. In timetable mode this is the normal way to proceed, but you also can take control in the yards.
- R Check engine run is On - rear panel (This is the case at Sandpatch, but not at the SJF Route)
- R Check Control & Fuel Pump is On - left lower panel next to left leg (This is the case at Sandpatch, but not at the SJF Route)
- R Set Generator Field On - left lower panel nex to left leg ( This is a new step for TSW2)
- R Set the Cut-Off valve to Cut In - using the Brake menu on the multifunction device (see below)
- R Set the MU Valve to Lead - using the Brake menu on the multifunction device (see below)
- R Insert the Reverser handle
- R Set the independent brake to full application (This prevents the train from rolling when you release the train brakes)
- O Set the reverser to idle
- R Release the automatic brakes This may take some time, 5 minutes is realistic! Observe the Brake pressure to rise till 89
- O Turn on the head lights
- O Turn on the ditch lights
- O Turn on the instrument lights
- O Check the handbrake is released You normally do not need to do this, but the handbrake wheel is on the long hood on non-driver's side
- O Sound the horn twice
- R Apply some power, notch 2 or 3 should do
- R When you see the ammeter rises, gradually release the independent brake. It may take some time before the train starts moving. This depends on train weight. Be patient!
- O Apply sand when needed If you start on a grade you may need to apply
- Brakes set to trail
- Brakes set to cut out.
- Auto-brake handle set to handle off
- Dynamic and independent brake fully released.
