Set up your Train Sim Drive before you start the scenario in Train Simulator. The best way I've found is to do it in the Train Sim route menu, so you have the name of the intended scenario in front of you. That way it is easy to find it in ThirdRails. When you're happy with the ThirRails set up, press the start after follow button, then start your Train Simulator scenario.

- Start ThirdRails
- Click on RealDrive tab
- If the Realtime Real Drive is ticked, you will drive a service that is actually running at the moment. Unticked it is adhoc, which means you can drive any timetabled service.
- Put station code in From box - eg. BTN for Brighton, them press Find Departures
- Select the service you want to drive, then press Retrieve realtime service info to bring up the timetable.
- You can edit some information such as platform if you want to. Press OK.
- You can press Broadcast after follow, which will put you as a timetable run on ThirdRails Radar when you press the follow arrow on ThirdRails app.
- Open the ThirdRails GPS radio tool by pressing on the icon that looks like Wifi signal on the ThirdRails app. This will open the Ebula (electronic book) window.
- Press on the calendar icon to see your train run details.
- You can get further details on this panel by pressing on the memo/click icon in the details panel.
- Press on the red guard icon on the Ebula panel (below the calendar) to activate your guard. Tick the Activate box.
- Ignore the Train Simulator clock. Your train times are indicated in the Ebula window.
- Announce departure time by clicking on the Departure time in the details window.
- Announce the current station by clicking on the Current station.
- Announce your trip details by pressing on the train details next to the exclamation mark top left corner of details panel. Pressing on the exclamation mark brings up the timetable of the real time service if that is what you are running.
- Using the train details window, cycle through next station (play button), approach, calling at.
- If you make a mistake, use the undo like icon, or go forward with the redo icon.
- Shortcuts - alt comma = next station; alt dot = approaching; alt T - calling at and open doors.
- The only button you need to press really is the calling at as that causes the app to move to the next timetabled station.
- Add hoc announcements can be made on the Ebula pressing the speaker icon then typing in the message.
- You can create a pdf or print details of your completed trip by pressing on the printer button on the Ebula.
- POI can be added from the tool menu. There are three categories.
- POI can be saved to a project file, using the tool menu.
