I got the idea to install OpenBVE from Qwertyafro on YouTube. He did some videos of London Underground lines.
The installation process was pretty straightforward. Content comes in the form of zip files which are then decompressed into the following folders:
- C:\Users\bgmca\AppData\Roaming\openBVE\LegacyContent\Railway - for routes
- C:\Users\bgmca\AppData\Roaming\openBVE\LegacyContent\Train\trainName - for trains
The operation of trains is a little complicated. You need to read the manuals. I'll do some notes for each route in VimWiki as I play them.
I have seen some content for Melbourne metropolitan lines on this platform and thought I'd try it out.
The installation requires you to set up your own folder structure for content. I don't know it this is because I don't have Microsoft Train simulator as this game seems to be a community project to keep that platform alive.
The manual says you don't need MSTS, and has a demonstration of this using some narrow gauge lines. I got to about the third requirement when the component being installed would not run on my system. I need to do some more research on that.
