Shadows in Trainz are problematical in that the shadows within locomotive cabs can be very jagged.

After some research, I have changed shadows to ultra. On the Mornington line, still getting steady 60fps.

However, in Coal Country, only getting 19fps (in the main yard area at Richmond). Left shadow quality at ultra, and turned down shadow resolution to 2048. Frame rate now up around 30 and higher in the lighter detail areas.

We'll see how this goes.
