After reading about how hard it is to remove OneDrive completely from Windows, and the advantages of having internet access as well as automatic backup of your files, I decided to re-enable it on my systems.
I had one little hitch with ThirdRails using an empty db file for a run which resulted in me losing that trip because there were conflicting files on bradspc and bradgamer. I fixed that and now let the files sync on both computers as I never access ThirdRails from Bradspc.
The main problem I had was Desktop syncing between both computers. I don't want this.
The factors consider when using OneDrive backup settings to not backup Desktop are:
- OneDrive backs up C:\Users\<username>\OneDrive\Desktop\
- When OneDrive desktop backup is on for Desktop, the default Desktop path is C:\Users\<username>\OneDrive\Destkop and will sync between systems.
- When OneDrive is off for Desktop, the default Desktop path is C:\Users\<username>\Desktop.
- OneDrive backup leaves C:\Users\<username>\Destop alone - whether backups for Desktop is on or off.
- If OneDrive for Desktop is turned off, the system Desktop defaults to C:\User\<username>\Desktop
I bought a Microsoft Basic subscription which uprades storage from 5Gb to 100Gb and gives me add free Outlook. It costs $30 AUD per year.
Stopped syncing bradgamer to Dropbox. Now using OneDrive. No need for Dropbox on SDF either as it is only needed for ToDo.txt, and I am using Google tasks now.
